All four oil processing trains of the Central Treatment and Export Plant (CTEP) in the South Azadegan joint oil field have been commissioned under the leadership of Petropars Group, increasing the facility’s nominal oil processing capacity to 320,000 barrels per day. This capacity provides the infrastructure required to receive and process crude oil produced from the joint field.
According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Petropars Group, Dr. Hamidreza Saghafi, CEO of Petropars Group, announced the completion of the commissioning of CTEP’s oil processing section and said: “With Trains A and B brought on stream, all four oil processing trains of the facility are now operational, bringing the section’s nominal capacity to 320,000 barrels per day.”
The CEO of Petropars Group added: “Each of CTEP’s four oil processing trains is designed to process 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The completion of their commissioning provides the capacity required to receive, process and desalinate crude oil produced from the South Azadegan joint oil field.”
Referring to the facility’s performance, Dr. Saghafi stated: “Since the phased commissioning of CTEP’s oil processing trains began, more than 28 million barrels of crude oil have been processed at the facility. With all four trains now operational, the oil industry has access to the processing infrastructure required to support the gradual increase in production from the South Azadegan field.”
While expressing his appreciation to the client and the project contractors, the CEO of Petropars Group attributed the achievement to integrated planning and effective coordination among the project’s different divisions.
He said: “Daily monitoring of activities, coordination among the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning teams, and continuous follow-up on critical equipment enabled the commissioning programme to be successfully completed.”
Providing further technical details, Dr. Saghafi said: “CTEP’s oil processing section comprises four trains—A, B, C and D—each with a processing capacity of 80,000 barrels per day. Trains C and D had previously come on stream with a combined capacity of 160,000 barrels per day. With the commissioning of Trains A and B, the facility’s total nominal capacity has now reached 320,000 barrels per day.”
He added: “The pre-commissioning and commissioning of Trains A and B included technical testing, inspection of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems, and rectification of the remaining deficiencies. These activities were completed through coordination among specialist teams, supported by daily planning and monitoring. The facility’s actual throughput will be determined by the volume of crude oil received from the field.”
Commenting on the latest status of the project, the CEO of Petropars Group said: “Construction progress has exceeded 80 percent, procurement progress has surpassed 70 percent, and overall project progress has reached approximately 80 percent. While the oil processing trains are now operational, the remaining activities and deficiency rectification work are continuing according to schedule.”
Dr. Saghafi concluded: “The completion of the commissioning of CTEP’s four oil processing trains is the result of the sustained efforts of the project’s specialists and workforce and demonstrates Petropars’ capabilities in managing and commissioning large-scale processing facilities. This capacity will serve as strategic support for the development of oil production from the South Azadegan joint field.”
CTEP’s Trains C and D were commissioned in late autumn 2025, with a combined oil processing capacity of 160,000 barrels per day. Following the commissioning of Trains A and B, all four oil processing trains are now operational, increasing the facility’s total nominal capacity to 320,000 barrels per day.
