Petropars Doubles Its Offshore Drilling Rig Fleet Capacity in the Persian Gulf in Less Than Ten Months

  2026 June 13
Petropars Group has announced a significant expansion of its offshore drilling fleet in the Persian Gulf, doubling the number of its offshore drilling rigs from two to four in less than ten months.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Petropars Group, the expansion has been achieved as part of the 14th Administration's upstream development program, with a strong focus on accelerating the development of the country's gas fields, including the South Pars infill drilling program and other strategic offshore projects in the Persian Gulf.

The expanded fleet is currently deployed across several key projects, including the development of South Pars Phase 11, the South Pars infill drilling project, and the Bilal Gas Field. These projects are among the country's most significant initiatives aimed at increasing natural gas production and improving Iran's energy balance.

Dr. Hamidreza Saqafi, CEO of Petropars Group, said:

The significant increase in the Company's operational capacity within less than one year is the result of systematic planning, a strong focus on priority projects, and the effective utilization of our execution capabilities across upstream developments."

He added:

The expansion of our offshore drilling fleet not only accelerates project execution but also plays a vital role in increasing the country's natural gas production and helping reduce the energy imbalance — an issue of strategic importance under current conditions."

According to Dr. Saqafi, the expansion of operational activities in recent months has substantially enhanced Petropars' execution capabilities in offshore projects, creating the conditions for greater efficiency and faster implementation of major development programs.

The increase in fleet capacity is part of Petropars' broader strategy to strengthen its execution infrastructure and ensure the continued advancement of the country's upstream development projects. This progress is expected to contribute significantly to higher natural gas production and the long-term stability of Iran's energy supply.

In conclusion, Petropars' management expressed confidence that, by maintaining this momentum, the Company's drilling and production capabilities will continue to grow, enabling Petropars to play an even more prominent role in ensuring the country's sustainable energy supply in the years ahead.
