Through the implementation of a comprehensive set of technical and operational measures under the South Azadegan development plan, oil production at the South Azadegan Oil Field has increased by more than 63,000 barrels per day over the past 17 months.
According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Petropars Group, Dr. Hamidreza Saghafi, CEO of Petropars Group, announced that the production growth has been achieved through drilling, completion, and workover of wells, acidizing operations, and the resumption of Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) deployment after a two-year suspension in the execution of related work packages.
During the referenced period, a total of 4,180 meters of new well drilling and 1,626 meters of workover drilling were completed. One new well was drilled and completed, while two workover wells were drilled, reactivated, and completed within the same timeframe.
Referring to well stimulation activities, Dr. Saghafi stated that acidizing operations were carried out on 22 wells with the objective of enhancing production rates and improving reservoir performance.
He further highlighted the restart of ESP deployment operations after a two-year interruption as another key milestone. Over the past 17 months, 38 ESP units, along with all associated surface equipment, were designed, manufactured, tested, and delivered by three domestic manufacturers.
Dr. Saghafi emphasized that the coordinated efforts and synergy among Petropars specialists operating on the front line of the country’s economic development have yielded measurable results. Specifically, wells No. 51 and 96 in Pad 14 have recorded combined production of 1,100 barrels per day, while wells No. 184 and 192 in Pad 9 have achieved a combined output of 1,800 barrels per day. Collectively, these and other operational improvements have led to a record production increase exceeding 63,000 barrels per day at South Azadegan.
It is noteworthy that the Azadegan field is one of the largest oil fields in the region and is shared with Iraq. Following years of stagnation, development of the Iranian section was entrusted to Petropars Group in 2019. On the Iraqi side known as the Majnoon Oil Field the field is being developed and produced by major international oil companies.
