Gas Production Surge at the Border-Most Phase of South Pars
Gas production from the development project of Phase 11 of South Pars—the border-most phase of the shared South Pars gas field—has increased from 410 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) to approximately 860 mmscfd following the completion of new wells, more than doubling its production capacity.
According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Petropars Group, Dr. Hamidreza Saghafi, CEO of Petropars Group, stated that the production increase was achieved through the drilling and completion of wells No. 1, 2, 9, 12, and 14 on the SPD11-B platform, along with precise planning and enhanced coordination and synergy among various project sectors. Drilling of the eleventh well out of a total of twelve planned wells on this platform is currently underway.
Referring to the latest status of the project’s offshore structures, Dr. Saghafi noted that the jacket of the SPD11-A platform—weighing more than 2,000 tons, standing over 70 meters tall, and designed to accommodate the drilling of 15 wells—had reached less than 35% progress over more than 20 months up to August 2024. However, through a comprehensive revision of execution plans and reinforcement of work fronts over the past 17 months, the project achieved an additional 65% construction progress. In January 2026, the jacket was successfully installed at Location A of Phase 11, and pile installation and safety operations are nearing completion through the efforts of Petropars Group personnel.
The CEO further emphasized that the design, construction, and installation contract for the SPD11-A platform—with a production capacity of 1,000 mmscfd—along with associated structures including a 73-meter flare tower and two connecting bridges totaling 160 meters in length with an approximate combined weight of 4,963 tons, had been awarded in February 2023 to Iran Shipbuilding & Offshore Industries Complex Co. (ISOICO). While overall progress of the contract had remained below 5% until August 2024, sustained follow-ups and structured planning over the past 17 months have advanced total progress to over 40%. The “First Steel Cut” operation officially commenced in January 2026.
Ali Naderan, Project Manager of the Phase 11 South Pars Development Project at Petropars Group, added that the primary focus remains on completing the drilling cycle and preparing the infrastructure required for stable and sustainable production. Completion of the remaining wells, along with construction and commissioning of the SPD11-A platform, will enable the project to achieve its final designed production capacity.
