Execution of Roll-Up Operation for Farzad B Platform Jacket at Khorramshahr Yard

  2025 November 19
The CEO of the Petropars Group announced the successful execution of the roll-up operation for the WHP-1 jacket of the Farzad B Project, carried out through the efforts of the country’s dedicated oil and gas industry specialists, emphasizing that the operation was completed safely this morning and that the jacket will be installed at its designated location in the near future.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of the Petropars Group, Dr. Hamidreza Saghafi stated that development of the joint Farzad B gas field includes two wellhead platforms, each with four wells, one water injection platform, one accommodation platform, and onshore gas and condensate receiving, processing, and transmission facilities. The project is being implemented with the aim of producing 1,000 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas, maximizing recovery from joint fields, and reducing the national energy imbalance.

Referring to the activities carried out under this project, he said: “The measures undertaken include site selection studies for onshore facilities in Pars-3, commencement of engineering studies for onshore facilities, initiation of offshore engineering studies, preparation of the WHP-1 wellhead jacket for installation at the designated location, and procurement of part of the drilling equipment.”

The Petropars CEO noted that fabrication of the WHP-1 wellhead jacket is nearing completion at the Iran Marine Industrial Facilities complex in Khorramshahr. This offshore structure, weighing 1,586 tons, along with piles weighing 976 tons, a temporary drilling deck (TDD) weighing 111 tons, and standing at a height of 60.2 meters, will be installed in approximately 54 meters of water in the turquoise waters of the Persian Gulf.

Dr. Saghafi emphasized that, in cooperation with the National Iranian Oil Company, it is anticipated that the drilling rig will be deployed at the field in the coming months. Given the high pressure, temperature, and elevated H₂S and CO₂ levels of the field, drilling operations will be challenging.

Reiterating that the Petropars Group is the trusted executive arm of the Ministry of Petroleum and, drawing on its successful experience in developing the South Pars joint gas field, is now responsible for the development of the Farzad B joint gas field under a buyback contract, Dr. Saghafi added: “One of Petropars’ primary objectives is to develop this joint field by relying on its technical expertise and the cohesion of its specialists and Iranian contractors. In its national and strategic projects, Petropars continues to benefit from the steadfast support of the employer and the Ministry of Petroleum.”
