Petropars Achieves a 38,000-Barrel Increase in Daily Oil Production from the South Azadegan Field Over the Past Ten Months
As the largest Exploration & Production (E&P) company in Iran’s petroleum industry, Petropars Group has successfully increased the daily production of the South Azadegan oil field by 38,000 barrels per day (bpd) over the past ten months. This achievement was realized through the drilling, completion, and commissioning of 17 production wells across various reservoir layers of the field. It is further estimated that an additional 14,000 bpd will be added to production capacity upon completion of acid stimulation operations in six more wells.
According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Petropars Group, Dr. Hamid-Reza Saghafi, CEO of the Group, stated that during this period, drilling and completion operations were successfully executed in the Sarak, Kazhdumi, Gadvan, and Fahlyan reservoir formations, relying entirely on domestic technical capabilities. Among these, the Fahlyan wells recorded the highest average production rate, at approximately 4,800 bpd per well.
He added that in pursuit of maximizing production output, acid stimulation programs have been conducted on six wells with careful selection of acid blends and chemical additives tailored to reservoir conditions—efforts that will significantly enhance production flow rates once the wells are brought online. Furthermore, two additional wells have been drilled and completed, expected to contribute around 3,000 bpd following acid treatment.
Dr. Saghafi expressed his appreciation for the commitment, technical expertise, and tireless efforts of all Petropars personnel, emphasizing that the achievements to date are the direct result of the dedication, professional integrity, and organizational cohesion of the company’s workforce.
Acknowledging the valuable support of the project owner, Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), he noted that Petropars—acting as the General Contractor (GC) for Phase 1 of the South Azadegan development project—is advancing the project with transparency, determination, and accelerated execution.
He also expressed recognition for the sincere cooperation of the project’s operational contractors, namely the Oil Exploration Operations Company, Dana Drilling Company, and Tadbir Drilling Company, each of which has played an important role in achieving these successes. While Dana Drilling Company has completed its operational packages, the activities of the other two contractors are in their final stages. Overall, Phase 1 construction and operational work is expected to be completed by September 2025.
Finally, Dr. Saghafi stated that in the subsurface domain, Petropars has taken a significant step toward national self-sufficiency by launching a tender for 50 Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) systems and initiating their manufacturing through domestic companies in partnership with reputable international suppliers. These efforts demonstrate Petropars’ longstanding commitment to playing a decisive role in advancing Iran’s petroleum industry and fulfilling the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Petroleum.
