Smart Pigging Operations Launched on South Pars Phase 11B Pipeline
Petropars Group has successfully commenced smart pigging operations on the 11B pipeline of South Pars Phase 11, marking a key milestone in the country’s energy self-sufficiency efforts at the start of the new year.
According to Petropars’ Public Relations and International Affairs Office, the operation began on March 20 using advanced inspection technologies—Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) and Transverse Field Inspection (TFI)—to assess pipeline integrity and improve the safety and efficiency of gas transmission.
This strategic initiative is part of Petropars’ commitment to uninterrupted field operations, even during Nowruz holidays. The company mobilized all logistical resources and contractors to ensure timely delivery and deployment of the inspection tools (pigs) to the SP11B platform.
The project aims to conduct a baseline inspection to detect and evaluate internal corrosion along the 140-kilometer pipeline route between the offshore platform and onshore processing facilities. The collected data will be vital for designing preventive maintenance programs and minimizing operational risks.
Despite technological and sanction-related challenges, Petropars successfully implemented this sophisticated project using domestic expertise and modern technology. The operation is expected to significantly enhance the longevity and safety of critical pipeline infrastructure.
“This marks a major step toward a more secure, efficient, and sustainable energy transmission system,” the statement concluded.
