Breakthrough in the Central Treatment Export Plant of South Azadegan Field ( CTEP)

  2025 November 10
In one of the country’s most critical national oil projects, the monumental CTEP Project—the largest separation and processing facility in Iran, located in the South Azadegan shared field—is advancing at an unprecedented pace. According to official reports and continuous field monitoring, by late October 2025, the project recorded consistent monthly progress over the past year.

Commissioning of the First Processing Train

A key milestone in this period has been the commissioning of the first central processing train (Train C) with a capacity of 80,000 barrels per day. Train D is expected to be operational by late autumn this year. It should be noted that all crude oil produced at CTEP is transferred directly to the West Karun pipeline.

This achievement not only marks the project’s entry into the operational phase but also establishes vital infrastructure for reaching the facility’s full future capacity.

Physical Progress Details

In early September 2024, overall execution progress stood at 54.89%. Over the course of one year, this figure increased by 15.81%, reaching 70.7%—a result attributable to enhanced team synergy, mobilization of domestic contractors, and optimal utilization of Iranian companies in design, fabrication, and installation.

Execution Metrics Over the Past Year

From October 2024 to October 2025, key construction and technical accomplishments included:

Concrete pouring: 9,183 m³

Pipeline welding: 122,000 inch-diameters

Electrical & instrumentation cabling: 450 km

Mechanical equipment installation: 6,366 tons

Structural steel installation: 387 tons

National Significance

The South Azadegan oil field, located on the Iran–Iraq border, is among the country’s most important joint fields. Accelerating its development plays a direct role in safeguarding national interests and enhancing Iran’s oil recovery factor.

Experts attribute this year’s progress to the technical synergy between Petropars, the project client, and the various contractors actively engaged—an alliance driving the country toward self-sufficiency across the design, construction, and operational value chain.
