Introduction

According to the goals of Iran's Fourth Economic, Social and Cultural Development Plan, the focus of national development is to be on industrial growth. In this plan the main concentration is on knowledge and this requires creation of knowledge-based structures and reinforcement of these structures in different sectors. One of the fundamentals of knowledge-based industrial development is special attention to research and technology.

For Iran with its vast hydrocarbon resources and over a hundred years experience in the oil and gas industry and the majority of its petroleum companies being state-owned, the transferring of experience, introducing new strategies, encouraging job creation, and defining new projects utilizing new technologies are essential requirements, necessary for developing the country's energy sector.

Our objective being a world-class international oil and gas operator both domestically and on the international front, necessitates continual improvement and expansion of our research and development activities with the aim to improve and expand the quality and capability of Petropars’ systems, resources and services.

In accordance with Company visions and goals, issued by our Chief Executive Officer, a Research and Development Committee has been established in January 2006, in order to strengthen, assist and expand science and technology as well as institutionalizing knowledge, within the R & D section, as a part of the Engineering and Development Department.

Objectives of the Research and Development Section

1. Planning the development and acquirement of technical knowledge and expertise, in order to solve existing problems of Company as well as the oil and gas industry
2. Assisting the development of science and technology in the field of oil and gas, in line with the strategies and missions of Petropars
3. Creating an environment for information, experiences and lessons learned to share with higher education and research centers
4. Establishing a dynamic environment in the Company to exchange and develop information and science while improving team work

Responsibilities and Authorities of the Research and Development Section  

1. Arranging and compiling policies, executive guidelines and macro objectives in order to develop, increase and flourish research activities within the Company
2. Developing an integrated data bank pertaining to information in regards to research projects with the cooperation and coordination of all departments
3. Identifying, evaluating and finalizing short and long-term research priorities and programs
4. Taking necessary actions inline with research projects objectives
5. Planning and establishing an active and creative network and relationship with local and foreign science and research centers
6. Planning and developing a practical and permanent relationship with industry innovators and experts
7. Utilizing the latest results from research and scientific developments in order to facilitate the progress of the Company towards its goals
8. Examining and evaluating research proposals and innovative ideas
9. Supervising the feasibility and execution of research projects referred to different departments

Main Outlines for Research Projects

1. Upstream Activities (reservoir, drilling, …)
2. Downstream Activities (Offshore and Onshore Facilities)
3. Process Licenses and Technology Transfer
4. Management and Execution

Procedure of Performing Research Projects

Researchers who intend to cooperate with Petropars in its research projects, shall fill in related forms which will be posted in R&D section of Company’s website, whenever there is a call for such projects, and submit it to Research and Development Committee’s secretariat.
